The questions I would ask
These are the questions I had before I wrote this guide, and the ones that come up when people plan a stay around the beach. Each answer comes from a source I name on the page it links to. Where the resort does not publish something, I say so.
Is this the official website of Mindil Beach Casino Resort?
No. This is an independent guide. The official site is mindilbeachcasinoresort.com.au. We are not owned by, or affiliated with, the resort or its owner and operator, Delaware North.
If I send a request, have I booked a room?
No. A request asks our desk to check a room and a rate with the resort or a booking partner. You receive an email reply. Nothing is booked, and nothing is charged, until you confirm directly with the hotel or the partner.
What time is sunset at Mindil Beach?
It depends on the month. By the US Naval Observatory table I use, the sun sets at about 6.29pm in mid-May and mid-June and as late as 7.19pm in mid-January. The full year is on sunset times.
When is the Mindil Beach Sunset Market on?
The market runs from the last Thursday in April to the last Thursday in October, on Thursdays and Sundays from 4pm to 9pm. By that rule the 2027 season should run from 29 April to 28 October 2027 — my derivation, not a published calendar. See the market guide.
Which room is best for watching the sunset?
The only room the resort describes with Darwin sunsets from its balcony is the Grand Hotel Suite, which overlooks the infinity pool. For other categories, the resort does not say which rooms face the water, so ask for a sea-facing room in the request.
Is the resort being renovated?
Yes. The resort says Stage 2 of its hotel renovations runs from 1 November 2026 to mid-April 2027, with occasional construction noise and temporary changes to access routes, while other facilities operate as normal. More in the journal.
What are the check-in and check-out times?
The resort did not publish them on the pages I read. Put your arrival and departure times in the request and the desk will ask.
Do I need a credit card at check-in?
Yes. The resort says a physical credit card is required on arrival for pre-authorisation and that digital cards on mobile devices are not accepted.
Is parking free?
The resort lists free on-site parking among its facilities, along with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and a 24-hour reception.
How far is it from Darwin Airport?
About 10–11 km by the driving routes I checked, roughly 11 minutes without heavy traffic. The Darwin City Airport Shuttle lists the resort among its stops. Details on getting here.
Can I swim in the sea at Mindil Beach?
People do in the Dry, but there are stinger and crocodile risks. Surf Life Saving NT lists lifeguards at Mindil on market days from 1 June to 30 September, 2–6pm. In the Wet I would use the resort pools. Read swimming safely.
Who can use the swim-up bar?
The resort says the swim-up side of Lagoon Bar is for hotel and resort guests. The bar trades every day from 1pm until sunset.
Is the Infinity pool bar open to children?
No. The resort lists Infinity as 18+ only, Friday to Sunday from 1pm to 7pm.
Which restaurants are open on a Monday?
The Vue and Dragon Court. il Piatto serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday only, and Dragon Court is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The week grid is on eat.
How old do you have to be to enter the casino?
The resort says you must be 18 or over. This site gives only neutral facts about the casino; see the casino page and responsible gambling.
How many rooms does the resort have?
The resort does not publish a total. Tourism NT lists 154 rooms on one page, an earlier Tourism NT page said 152, and Wikipedia says 117. I do not pick one.
How does this site make money?
If a request sent through this site becomes a confirmed stay, the resort or the booking partner who completes it may pay us a commission. There is no advertising and no affiliate network on the site at present. Full details on how we are paid.
Can you book restaurants, the spa or event spaces?
No. We only pass on room requests. For restaurants the resort's reservations line is (08) 8943 8881; for spa private events, 08 8943 8877; event spaces are handled by the resort's events team.
