How I would spend forty-eight hours
This is the plan I would follow on a first visit in the Dry, built around opening hours the resort and its neighbours publish. Every time below is either a published hour or a sunset from the US Naval Observatory table. I have written a Wet-season variation underneath, because the same two days look very different in January.
Chapter 2Day one — arrive, swim, market
- Afternoon
Land and check in
Darwin Airport is about 10–11 km from the resort by the route I checked — roughly 11 minutes by car without traffic. The Darwin City Airport Shuttle lists the resort among its stops. Have a physical credit card ready for pre-authorisation.
- 2:00 pm
Into the lagoon
Lagoon Bar trades from 1pm until sunset, and the swim-up side is for hotel and resort guests. If you are in a Superior Lagoon Room, you start from your own deck.
- 4:00 pm
Market opens (Thursday or Sunday)
Walk over along the foreshore. Eat early — the queues lengthen as the light goes.
- 6:10–6:45 pm
The sun
Be on the sand twenty minutes before sunset. In mid-June the sun sets at 6.29pm; in mid-October at 6.44pm.
- 7:30 pm
Whips at the casino end, then back
Mick's Whips at 7.30pm, then the short walk back. The market closes at 9pm.
Day two — gardens, museum, a long dinner
- 7:00 am
Breakfast
The Vue's breakfast runs 7am–11am daily. The restaurants page listed The Vue as operating at il Piatto when I checked, so confirm where.
- 8:00 am
Botanic Gardens
The gardens are behind the beach with pedestrian access from Gilruth Avenue. Go before the heat.
- 10:00 am
MAGNT
MAGNT Darwin opens 10am–4pm daily at 19 Conacher Street. Fannie Bay Gaol opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10am–2pm.
- 1:00 pm
Spa or infinity pool
Lagoon Day Spa runs on published hours most days (Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment); treatments over 60 minutes include lagoon pool access. On Fridays to Sundays the adults-only Infinity bar opens at 1pm.
- 4:00 pm
Sandbar
Opens daily at 4pm on a renovated deck facing the water.
- 5:30 pm
Dinner
il Piatto (Wednesday–Sunday) or Dragon Court (Friday–Tuesday), both 5.30pm–9pm. Reservations: (08) 8943 8881.

The same two days in the Wet
There is no market from November to April, so the evenings move indoors and to the pools. I would swap the market for a slow sunset at Sandbar, keep the museum for the hottest part of the day, and plan dinner around the restaurant days — remember il Piatto does not serve dinner on Mondays or Tuesdays, and Dragon Court is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Sunset in the Wet falls between about 6.42pm and 7.19pm, so dinner can start later. Between 1 November 2026 and mid-April 2027, add the renovation question to your request.
If this plan fits, put your dates in the form below and write "two-day plan" in the notes. The desk will check a room with the right outdoor space.
